Aubergine Fine Foods is an independent, family-owned delicatessen in Woburn Sands, established by local residents Jill and John Goulding. Run by food lovers for food lovers, Aubergine strives to offer international speciality foods alongside the finest locally-sourced produce.
The ever expanding range includes British and continental cheeses, salamis and chorizos, pastas, cooking sauces, preserves, chocolates, breads and biscuits, plus all the kitchen cupboard essentials. Fresh fish is available to order direct from Billingsgate Market three times a week.
Wherever possible Aubergine sources foods from local, small-scale producers, including free-range eggs from Cranfield; bacon, sausages and hams from their butcher’s own farm in Bedfordshire; bread from Ampthill; organic milk from Flitwick; plus honey, vegetables and delicious home-made cakes from Woburn Sands itself.
In addition, there is an increasing range of ‘free from’ foods for people with special dietary requirements, including gluten-free pastas, cereals and biscuits. Aubergine is also an ethical and environmentally responsible business. Many products are fairly traded, offering producers in the developing world a better deal, and all the shop’s own packaging is bio-degradable, recyclable, or from a sustainable source.
Latest developments include a new lunch menu offering pasta dishes, home-made savoury tartlets, filled ciabatta rolls and gourmet salads, plus great coffee and fresh fruit smoothies. A business and event menu is also available with free local delivery. And for those of you looking for something a bit different for your wedding or special event, a cheese ‘wedding cake’ or tower of cheese makes a spectacular and original centrepiece.
