The Fox & Hounds is a family run establishment in the pretty village of Hunsdon. It is established as one of Hertfordshire’s leading pub & dining room, receiving impressive reviews and accolades in numerous press articles and guides. With a beautiful refurbishment in January 2014, they are now celebrating their 10th year. Chef/proprietor James Rix has previously worked in some of London’s most celebrated eateries.
Everything is made in-house and the menu changes daily making the best of good quality seasonal produce. The new Josper charcoal oven is proving to be very popular. It cooks meat, fish and vegetables beautifully and gives it a lovely smokey flavour. Cooking it quickly at very hot temperatures keeps the food moist and juicy. Rare breed meats and locally shot game feature and seafood is delivered daily from the East and South coasts. Sample dishes include: Scallops Roasted in the Shell, Seaweed Butter & Samphire. Hand Rolled Linguine, Crab, Chilli, Garlic & Parsley. Whole Grilled Seabass, Pepperonata & Salsa Verde. Scotch Black Angus Cote de Boeuf, Bearnaise Sauce & Fat Chips. Finish off with a selection of homemade ice cream (Vanilla, Espresso, Cinnamon, Salt Caramel). Cherry & Almond Tart & Creme Fraiche. There is an interesting wine list with a good selection offered by the glass or carafe. You will also find an excellent value midweek set menu.
The pub has a friendly, informal atmosphere with a comfy laid back bar, log fire and local ales. The smart dining room features a chandelier and is popular for gatherings of families and friends and for private functions.
The large garden comes into its own in the summer with a large covered/heated patio and children’s play area - great to keep the children entertained whilst having a quiet drink or bite to eat.
